[North-West Mounted Police]

The Duke of Cornwall and York, and Prince Alexander of Teck visit Calgary, September 28, 1901

Under escort by the North-West Mounted Police, the Duke of Cornwall and York [later King George V] presented medals to South African war veterans living in Calgary, and toured the Blackfoot camp at Shaganappi Point.  He was accompanied on the trip by Prince Alexander of Teck, youngest brother of the Duchess of Cornwall, who acted as aide-de-camp during tour. Prince Alexander became Earl of Athlone and was Governor-General of Canada, 1940-1946.
