Major John Stewart. 1854 - 1893. Member of Canadian Parliament. Stewart founded Stewart Ranch Company, Pincher Creek, Alberta in 1881. Bought land on east side of Elbow River, Calgary and had original town site of Calgary laid out. Founder of Rocky Mountain Rangers, 1885; formed during the Riel rebellion to patrol from Fort Macleod, Alberta along the international border. Members included: Lord Boyle [Viscount Richard Henry Boyle], and Kootenai Brown, chief scout
