Stereopticon Slides of Glacier National Park

 

Set of 149/150 Original Slides in Box Along with "Glacier National Park: A Lecture" Booklet (Great Northern Railway, 1910).

 

ST Paul, Minn.: Haynes Photo Studio, [circa 1900]. Very good. Set of 150 hand-coloured lantern slides. No broken images. Missing only the first slide (#1) with the other 149/150 complete. Each slide is numbered and captioned with the image clear and brightly coloured. In original wooden slide box with some light staining and wear. Black cloth lining in top of a box with a 'Notice to the Operator' affixed discussing proper slide use. Box closes with a metal clasp and ring (both slightly rusty) a worn sticker beneath the clasp provides instructions regarding the case and ring.

 

Also included is the "Glacier National Park: A Lecture- Great Northern Railway/Glacier National Park" booklet. Booklet measures 13.75 X 6.25" with 30 pages and a small B/W image of each slide (along with a description); booklet shows some light soiling and light wear to spine. An impressive collection of slides made even more complete by the accompanying book containing descriptions and information.

 

F. Jay Haynes (1853-1921) was official photographer for the Northern Pacific Railroad and for Yellowstone National Park. This collection of lantern slides contains a wealth of images regarding Glacier National Park, including looming mountains, hotel waitresses, bright flowers, crisp water and native Americans all with detailed hand-colouring.
