Pollard, Harry. Martin Horse - "Blackfoot".

[circa 1920]. (Photograph) Very good. 19" X 15.5" (48.2 X 39.37 CM) in wooden frame carved into soft waves at edge, with thin red inner border. Frame measures 23" X 19.5" (58.4 X 49.5 cm); it shows some scratching and small dents. Original, hand coloured photo. A beautiful clean image with bright, rich colouring.

Artist: Harry Pollard. This portrait shows a beautiful juxtaposition between delicate photo-realistic details and strong, paint heavy brush stroked in the background. A really wonderful piece. Harry Pollard (1880–1968) was a Canadian photographer whose specialty was photographing First Nations people of Canada. Though born in Ontario the photographer moved to Calgary in 1899 where he opened a photo studio.
